Norway certainly had a claim to the Sverdrup Islands based on the fact that Otto Sverdrup discovered the area. When I was employed by Spartan Air Services I was impressed with the Axel Heiberg ice fields while completing the final line of aerial photography in 1962 to complete the 1:50,000 mapping of the Arctic for NAPL. Canada was fortunate to have come to an agreement and as a Canadian I would say "Thank You" to Norway.
